Wayfinding Icons

This project was part of a conceptual brief to create a series of wayfinding icons for a preexisting estalnishment.

I chose the Chau Chak Wing Museum, located at the University of Sydney.

Rationale
I have used the typeface ‘Trap’ to create my logotype and corresponding icons for the Chau Chak Wing Museum.

I felt that this typeface had subtle details in an angular and sharp type that matches the clean, minimal and brutalist architecture of the museum. It has a sense of professionalism and clarity necessary for a museum space. The sans serif type allows for weighty legibility in the icons.

The icons have been created through deconstruction of the type, certain letters and numbers have been used to create different elements of the icon.

For example the letter
‘o’ has been used as the circle in the block icons and the number 2 has been used in the coat room icon. I have also incorporated the notch detail and the square sans serif ends into the icons.
